Maiden with ears of wheat
Demetre Chiparus (1886-1947)
20th century, Gold and silver
A more humble subject than the other dancers in the exhibition, the maiden, holding a sheaf of wheat with her hand and shoulder, reveals her refined aura through the use of colours such as gold and silver which, in contrast, enhance her elegance. The body is silver-plated, the sheaf of wheat and some details of the dress are gilded: these colours particularly stand out against the black veined marble base, on which the signature of D. CHIPARUS appears, as is often the case with the sculptures in this room.
